The 2013 edition of the Orange CAF Champions League will be contested between South Africa’s Orlando Pirates and Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Both teams booked their passage to the final following hard fought victories over the past weekend. For the Mighty Buccaneers it was their 1-all draw away to Esperance TP that proved vital; while the seven-time champions had to go through the lottery of the penalty shootout to overcome a stubborn Coton Sport side (winning 7-6 on penalties).

The first leg of the Champions League will be in South Africa on November 2 and will be played at Orlando Stadium. The return leg will be played a week later (November 9) in Egypt.

The last time Pirates played the Red Devils in this competition, the match ended in a goalless draw. In the first leg the Mighty Buccaneers surprised many when they emerged 3-0 victors away from. The defeat suffered by Al Ahly at the hands of Pirates, ended their 23 match unbeaten run in the Champions League which stretched over a eleven year stretch.

History in the Competition

Orlando Pirates: Will be participating in their second Champions League final. In 1995 Pirates defeated Asec Mimosa to clinch their maiden Champions League title.

Al Ahly: are the most successful club in the history of the CAF Champions League. The Red Devils are seven time winners of the competition and are the current defending champions having beaten Esperance TP last year.
